As you step into the aquarium, blue light shimmers across the display tanks. Jellyfish drift gracefully with the currents, unfolding like delicate flowers beneath the sea. Their gentle movements have a calming effect, inviting visitors to slow down and enjoy the moment. For photography enthusiasts and those who love documenting everyday life, these enchanting scenes offer the perfect opportunity to pause, admire and capture the beauty of the ocean.
Jellyfish Bring a Splash of “Ocean Dopamine” This Autumn
Jellyfish are among the most ancient groups of animals in the ocean. Different species display distinctive shapes, colors and tentacle structures. Some are delicate and translucent, while others feature vivid colors. Under carefully arranged lighting, their graceful movements and luminous forms create a dreamlike visual experience.
During the event, a variety of jellyfish will be showcased in the Sea and Shore Zone on the second floor of Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. Papuan jellyfish and golden jellyfish will make their debut as new display species. Meanwhile, the lighting in the Pacific sea nettle jellyfish tank has been upgraded, creating an even more enchanting and vibrant viewing experience.

Visitors can take home more than just memories of the jellyfish displays. Shanghai Ocean Aquarium has created a collection of animated mobile wallpapers using footage captured inside the aquarium. The wallpapers are available for free download through the aquarium’s official Xiaohongshu account.

National Day Special: Jellyfish Face Painting Adds a Splash of Ocean Color to the Holiday
During the National Day holiday, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium will offer a jellyfish-themed face-painting experience.
From October 1 to October 7, visitors can enjoy free face painting at the Ocean Classroom on the third floor, from 10:00 to 16:00 each day. A variety of jellyfish designs will be available, including fluorescent patterns that create a magical glowing effect under the light, adding a touch of marine charm to the holiday.
National Day Night Sessions: Discover a Blue Ocean World After Dark in Lujiazui
Shanghai Ocean Aquarium will offer evening visits during the National Day holiday. From October 1 to October 6, the aquarium will remain open until 21:00, with night admission available from 17:30 to 20:30.
The aquarium takes on a different charm after dark. The illuminated display tanks create a more tranquil atmosphere, while jellyfish, schools of fish and the underwater tunnel become even more immersive under the blue lighting.
Visitors can capture stunning photographs in front of the glowing jellyfish tanks or stroll through the 155-meter-long Underwater Tunnel, watching sharks, rays and sea turtles glide overhead. Popular photo spots such as the “Silver Tornado” and the “Underwater Elevator” also offer memorable opportunities to capture the magic of the underwater world.
